Leadership: Towards a Definition Description
I have never quite found an adequate definition of leadership. The problem with a definition probably stems from the fact that leadership is better described than defined. I think this is true because definitions are meant to constrict a term. Leadership is just too broad.
John Maxwell attempts to solve the definition problem by describing leadership with one word—Influence. Leadership is influence, not just a position of authority, This is worth considering:
“A person may be ‘in control’ because he has been appointed to a position. In that position he may have authority. But real leadership is more than having authority; it is more than having the technical training and following the proper procedures. Real leadership is being the person others will gladly and confidently follow.”
